As claims go, this one is impossible to confirm or refute. Easkey Britton says she’s the first woman to surf Iran, and whether she is or not is less important than…surfing Iran. Who cares what your gender is? If you can time the tiny swell window when pulses aim north between Pakistan and the Gulf of Oman, you’ve scored.
Britton wrote an interesting take on the chasm between her expectations for Iran and the ground truths she found there, which you read over at MissionTV. Funny thing, though — she didn’t address the seemingly contradictory message of wearing a (Lycra!) hijab to cover her hair while surfing in a wetsuit that shows every curve. Ah, well, we humans often make no sense, and neither do our cultures.
