Feature Gallery: A Record-Breaking, 223-Mile John Muir Trail Run

[cycloneslider id=”john-muir-trail-run”]

In August, ultrarunners Hal Koerner and Mike Wolfe attempted to break the record running 223 miles on the John Muir Trail from Whitney Portal in the eastern Sierra Nevada to Yosemite. They battled sun, heat, lack of oxygen, and a missed rendezvous with a resupply, but in the end they did it, with a final time (and new record) of 3 days, 12 hours and 41 minutes.

I caught up with them throughout the run, at the beginning from Whitney Portal, a key points along the run, and at the well-deserved finish in Yosemite. This is what it looks like.

First off I am not that tough, I don’t run more than 10 miles at a time……..but man, i’d love to have a team of like 50 people to help me ‘run’ the JMT. Call me cynical, but I’d say the record belongs to people who do this self supported

Interesting to note…these guys are sponsored North Face athletes and yet their shoes, their most critical piece of gear, are Adidas and Pearl Izumi.
