Becca Skinner and Her 2004 Chevy Colorado
Photographer Becca Skinner is loosely based out of Bozeman, Montana, so her office includes Yellowstone and the Tetons. Her work is chasing good light, and sometimes the best way to do that is to have a vehicle you can sleep in, so you’re where you need to be at dusk and dawn. We asked her for a quick tour of her truck, a 2004 Chevy Colorado.
Year, Make, Model?
2004 Chevy Colorado
Does the vehicle have a name?
Happy (she’s yellow).
Years owned?
1.5 years
How did you get it?
After my old Rav4 hit the dust in a big car breakdown finale, I was looking for something with personality. Driving past a used car lot, I saw the yellow truck and knew that was what I wanted.
What do you do for a living?
Freelance photographer and writer, and nearly professional backcountry-stove-burrito-maker.
How did you modify it?
Bed build-out in the back
How many states has the vehicle visited?
Nine states and Canada, but I’ve visited most of those states two or three times in the past year and a half. The mileage I’ve put on it speaks more clearly of its travels.
Sports?
Fly fishing, backpacking, biking, climbing.
Pros?
The bed build out, the 4WD and high clearance-and it’s easy to find in a crowded parking lot.
Cons?
It’s not stealthy, and parallel parking is like wrangling a futon up a set of stairs.
