Help a Beloved Market and PCT Stopover Rebuild From Fire

Montezuma Valley Market is the only store in Ranchita, California, roughly 100 miles from the southern head of the Pacific Crest Trail. It’s popular as the first place a thru-hiker can really rest weary bones, grab a cold beer, use a grill for freshly cooked food, see a friendly face.

It’s run by Kemi and Mike Pavlocak. The two are Navy vets who also run on orchard near Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Last month, however, a fire destroyed the market. Officials think it may have been an accident resulting from a couple hikers using the grill and failing to extinguish it properly.

Friends of the Pavlocaks have established a GoFundMe to help the family rebuild. If you’d like to support, head here.
