Kami Rita Sherpa Breaks Own Record With 25th Everest Summit

This past weekend, Kami Rita, 51, was part of a Sherpa team that ascended to Everest’s summit, fixing ropes for the expected several hundred climbers who will make an attempt to climb the mountain, despite a wave of Covid infections at basecamp. It was his 25th time climbing to Everest’s peak since his first back in 1994. Since Rita already held the record for most Everest summits with 24, he’s just adding to his legend. His family tried to convince him to quit climbing after a devastating avalanche in 2015 killed 19 people. Still, Rita powers on.
