Outdoor Brand Snow Peak Opens a Restaurant?

Snow Peak has been making high quality outdoor equipment, mostly kitchen related, in Japan for 60 years. You may have one of their lovely titanium mugs or cooksets, possibly one of their elegant, thin sporks. And now, if you’re in the Portland area, you can use some of those items at Snow Peak’s new restaurant, Takibi (“bonfire” in Japanese).

If you’ve ever seen a Snow Peak booth at Outdoor Retailer, this development isn’t exactly surprising. The brand always has the coolest setups, with plenty of light wood, minimalist furniture, and their intricate stoves and cookware thoughtfully setup as if it was, well, a restaurant.

โ€œWe believe Snow Peak is the foodiest brand in the outdoor industry,” said Matt Liddle, Snow Peak’s COO. “By opening Takibi, weโ€™re on our way to becoming the outdoorsiest brand in the hospitality space.โ€

Believe it or not, Snow Peak plans to open more restaurants in the U.S. in the coming years. A strange marriage, outdoor brands and restaurants, but Snow Peak has never really fit in with the rest of the outdoor biz anyway, more glamping than dirtbag.
