The Ferrari of Chairlifts

Hanazono Niseko, on Japan’s Hokkaido Island, is a powder-blessed wonderland with volcano views, and seemingness endless terrain. It’s a world-class ski destination, and, fitting that designation, it now has the fanciest-pants chairlift money can buy.

The new 10-person gondola and 6-person chairlift are there to take those who can afford it, from their luxury SUVs to the top of the run in an equally luxe lift. Heated leather seats modeled after luxury car interiors and individual car suspension for that smoothest of smooth rides await. The gondola has that too, plus panoramic windows for ultimate selfie taking. We assume, anyway.

โ€œItโ€™s a bit like buying a European car โ€“ you get the bare bones to start with at a base price, then you build on all the options,” said Colin Hackworth, Hanazono Ski Resort President. “We optioned up as much as we could.โ€
