I was on a little remote working adventure this past week. Took the family up to the snow, got the toddler out for some sledding, had the newborn bundled up and wondering at all the bright whiteness for the first time. I thought to myself, I should really bring my camera as we left for the trip, then thought about how great my iPhone captures images, and left the camera at home. Phones, and their fancy software, have made us all much better photographers, I reasoned.
Then I looked at these Red Bull Illume contest winners and saw what real, actual photography looks like. Sure, technology has helped us non-photographers take passing photos, but it’s also helped those who were already the best in the world.
Below is a selection of winners from this year’s contest, with a little about each shot from the photographer. You can see more from the contest and order prints of the winning images, right here.
