ABOUT
Adventure Journal was created to share the joy, stoke, and exhilaration of a life spent outdoors, from the buzz you get when deep powder skiing to the calm you feel beside a high mountain lake. Our stories are sparked on chairlift rides, on tailgates after long grinders, and around campfires deep into the night. How you define adventure is personal, but for us the common threads are curiosity, motion, and a hunger to explore the world.
AJ first took root in 2008 as the blog of Stephen Casimiro (below, conducting field research with AJ’s art director), then West Coast editor of National Geographic Adventure, and has grown to be a key destination for more than 300,000 visitors a month. In 2016, we launched Adventure Journal in print to create a special, high-quality, immersive reading experience. Our writers include some of the world’s most celebrated outdoor voices, including Craig Childs, Robert Macfarlane, Doug Peacock, and Terry Tempest Williams. Our photographers are among the best in every sport and environmental realm, including Chris Burkard, Forest Woodward, Cristina Mittemeier, Joel Sartore, Ami Vitale, and many others.
Our goal is to make an extraordinary publication, an outdoor magazine that transcends genre, while putting readers, contributors, and the environment first. We print on thick, beautiful, certified-sustainable paper and we use soy ink. We limit our ad pages—a better experience for readers and ad partners. Our operations are powered primarily by solar and we plant a tree for every product sold. We pay fair market rates and our contracts respect the rights of creators. In short, we are doing our best, and we hope that commitment comes through wherever you experience AJ.
The deeper you get, the deeper you get.
